Our Mission

The motto of the Latrobe Valley Field Naturalists Club Inc (LVFNC) is: “To Protect and Enjoy”.
The LVFNC was formed in 1960 with the aims of:
  • Fostering an enjoyment of the world of nature
  • Working for the preservation of the Latrobe region’s flora and fauna and of the natural habitats that support them.

The club attracts people from right across West, Central and South Gippsland with an interest in the natural world around them. Some have interests in a specific area of natural history, such as plants, fungi, mosses and lichens, birds, reptiles, insects, geology and geomorphology, while others are generalists, interested in areas like ecology of wetlands or land habitats, or environmental management.
We’re all keen to share knowledge, so don’t be afraid to come along to an activity, where you’ll be made very welcome. We are all learning about the beauty and complexity of nature!
